Maria Uspenski is the founder of The Tea Spot, a leading producer of craft teas, based in Boulder, Colorado. The philanthropic company’s mission is to advance healthier living through the everyday enjoyment of whole leaf tea. The Tea Spot donates ten percent of all sales in-kind to cancer and community wellness.
Uspenski’s love of tea was fostered at an early age by her Russian family. Later, as an undergraduate student in Paris, France, she was introduced to many more varieties than the traditional black teas of her childhood. During stints as a ballet dancer and athlete, Maria began to discover the health benefits of tea. It is her core belief that loose leaf tea can be made simple enough for the everyday, and that even the most inexperienced tea drinker should be enjoying and infusing tea in its purest, whole leaf form.
An MIT mechanical engineer by education, Uspenski is the The Tea Spot’s innovative force, listed on three U.S. patents for Steepware® inventions, which promote the ease of tea preparation. Her message is simple and powerful - tea in its freshest form is not only sustainable and delicious, it is a powerful elixir with unmatched health benefits.

Maria Uspenski has been featured in the Huffington Post and on television interviews for her success as a social entrepreneur, cancer fighter and certified tea and fitness nutrition expert.
